Dreaming as One
In 2006 UnitingCare Burnside (Burnside) initiated the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Research Project to contribute to the ATSI indicators in Burnside’s Strategic Plan 2006–2009.
The research was to help to improve Burnside’s recruitment strategies for ATSI workers by enhancing organisational support, providing comprehensive workforce development and reinforcing ATSI service provision.
This research is to be shared across UnitingCare Children, Young People and Families and should be viewed as the initial step in the ‘journey’, building upon current practice.
Stages two and three of this research have since been undertaken and were conducted in 2007. The aim of stage two of ‘Dreaming as One’ has been to further examine recruitment and retention strategies for ATSI workers by building an organisational framework to increase workforce sustainability and reinforce ATSI service provision.
The purpose of stage three of ‘Dreaming as One’ builds on and strengthens findings from the previous research by further examining some of the barriers and challenges facing UnitingCare Children, Young People and Families in the development of strategies to bring about long term change to the organisational culture.
