Aboriginal Employment Strategy

Get to work with a culturally aware organisation: Get a career that matters.

Since 2008, UnitingCare Children, Young People and Families, has been committed to strengthening recruitment and retention of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander staff, including providing cultural awareness training for all our staff.

We encourage employment applications from people who identify as Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander, and have practices in place to support their application process and induction to be job-ready. With about 80 employees from an Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander background, we have an active community of support and development to build skills, and our employment practices encourage retention and promotion into management positions.

Jaanimili is the Aboriginal Advisory group for UnitingCare Children, Young People and Families. Jaanimili means 'gathering' from the Gumbainggir Aboriginal people of the north coast NSW, and the group invites the participation of all Aboriginal staff working across the organisation.

The advisory group provides both quality funded services to Aboriginal communities, and cultural support and guidance to our employees from Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal backgrounds. This has proven to be a high success factor for service provision in Aboriginal communities.
