UnitingCare Children, Young People and Families is comprised of two main agencies and incorporates the Institute of Family Practice. We are proud of each agency’s achievements and these are celebrated in the Annual Reports.
Both the UnitingCare Burnside and UnitingCare Unifam Counselling & Mediation Annual Reports are focused on the importance of 'connecting' people through building relationships.
Burnside Annual Report 2009 Highlights
Burnside:
- Helped around 7500 families and children in their local communities.
- Found that 88% of service users said things had improved as a result of using Burnside’s services.
- Supported 469 children and young people in out of home care and aftercare, an increase of 26% over the previous two years.
- The Children's Guardian Audit revealed that 100% of children and young people in Burnside's care were given the opportunity to participate in their case plan development.
- The introduction of the Indigenous Employment Strategy saw a growth in the number of Aboriginal staff and a 98% retention rate of Aboriginal staff. 6% of staff identify as Aborigine.
- The Institute of Family Practice trained >1500 professionals - an increase of nearly 30% over the last year.

Unifam Annual Report 2009 Highlights
Unifam:
- Worked with around 9000 clients.
- Helped around 3000 families through its three Family Relationship Centres.
- Continued to recruit bilingual professionals from CALD communities.
- Continued to have a wider focus than solely working with individual child and family relationships.
- Excelled in passing the Department of Families, Housing, Community Services and Indigenous Affairs (FaHCSIA) Audit of Approval requirement.
- The successful tenderer for Supporting Children after Separation Program (SCaSP) established the new initiative in Newcastle, Wollongong, Gosford and Metropolitan Sydney.
