UnitingCare Burnside urgently requires long term and short term carers for school aged children and teenagers in the Sydney Metropolitan area. Burnside welcomes carers from any background and any family situation and there are many flexible options available. All foster carers are provided with extensive caseworker support, receive ongoing training opportunities and receive a fortnightly allowance.
Current foster carer, Monica, describes her foster child as clever, active, warm and loving and fondly recalls her favourite moment with him was when he first told her he loved her.
She says becoming a foster carer "...is so rewarding. It's scary...but a marvellous experience. I wouldn't swap it for the world, it's changed out lives." She also feels that the best thing about being a foster carer is "we provide these children with somewhere to live, grow and develop, and become what they are destined to become. For us, we get a lot in return, we get the love and the change and so many exciting things that happen on a daily basis", she says.
